From the car park, walk back toward the entrance and cross the road to enter the plantation through the kissing gate.
After about 500 metres the path will drop down toward an old road which runs into the reservoir. Walk up the road for about 20 metres and then turn right down some steps and cross the footbridge spanning the inlet and up the steps on the far side. At the top of the steps head towards the reservoir where the path turns left and runs parallel with the water.
The path continues beside the reservoir for 500 metres or so until the route joins an old track with a bank to the left and a wall on the right. Go up the track (away from the reservoir) for about 20 metres and then pass through the gap in the wall on the right. The path runs through some conifers with a rock outcrop to the left, and a ruined mill on the right.
Turn right up the track for about 250 metres before turning left to follow a stone wall for a short distance.
At a ladder stile, climb over and continue keeping the stone wall and fencing on the right. On reaching a conifer plantation, turn left until the end of the wood is reached. At this point turn right down some steps to a footbridge crossing the river Washburn and up some steps on the opposite side of the valley.
Climb on to the top of the Roundell's Allotment and follow the sign posts over the top of the moor southwards back towards the reservoir and the southern end of a conifer plantation. Descend to the of the plantation and cross another stile onto an old track between a wall (left) and an old wire fence protecting the trees on the right. At the bottom of the slope there is another stile - cross this and then follow the wall which is now on your left.
The path runs alongside the reservoir before reaching a small conifer wood. Follow the edge of the plantation then walk onto a metalled access track. Take the right hand fork and thus reach the public road. Follow this back to the car park.
